How to have Clarity this Christmas

Today marks 12 days ‘til Christmas and a year since the passing of my Mum.

The good thing about anniversaries, even the painful ones, is that they give us a start date to check our progress; to ask “what have I achieved in the last year? What is it I haven’t yet accomplished that I thought I would?”

As I thanked the hospital Pastor for helping me move my chair closer to her bed, after 3 days of holding on, my Mum took her last breath.  He had just said “We are here to look after you too ‘Tina”.  It was like my Mum was waiting to hear that she could leave because others would care for those she loved.

As I recall these lyrics of the ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ song, On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… I wonder, how are we looking after the one person who should be dearest to you – yourself?

This Christmas, what is it you really want?  Forget the Ugg Boots, the trip to the Maldives and the feast.  As you spend time with your family, hold them dear, but hold yourself dearer and ask yourself, “what can I do better to look after me too?”

Try answering these questions:

I want a lifestyle that…

  • allows me to…

  • uses my skills and talents of …

  • fulfils my financial needs of…

  • looks after my emotional needs of…

  • is physically…

  • is mentally…

  • spiritually allows me to experience…

  • further offers…

The Christmas season and the end of the year is an opportunity for us to reflect and to receive our dearest gift of all – clarity to know what we need to build the life we truly want.
